Στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση κάθε χρόνο πετάνε περίπου πενήντα εννέα εκατομμύρια τόνους φαγητό. Η Κύπρος είναι πρώτη σε αυτό: διακόσια ενενήντα τέσσερα κιλά φαγητό για κάθε άτομο τον χρόνο.
