Τον Ιούνιο του χίλια εννιακόσια ογδόντα εννέα, μετά τον θάνατο του Αγιατολάχ Χομεϊνί, η κυβέρνηση διέκοψε τις τηλεφωνικές συνδέσεις με ξένες χώρες. Αυτό έγινε για να περιορίσουν την επικοινωνία των αντιπάλων του καθεστώτος με το εξωτερικό.
