Την πρώτη Ιανουαρίου, η Κύπρος έγινε η πρόεδρος του Συμβουλίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης για έξι μήνες. Ένα διαφημιστικό βίντεο για αυτό το γεγονός προκάλεσε σκάνδαλο στη Τουρκική Δημοκρατία της Βόρειας Κύπρου γιατί χρησιμοποιεί εικόνες από τη κατεχόμενη Σαλαμίνα.
